Spurs board still believe in me, says Villas-Boas
UNDER-FIRE Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has denied his job is in jeopardy.
Spurs lost 6-0 at Manchester City on Sunday and in their last three Premier League games have failed to score and taken just a point.
But, ahead of tonight’s trip to the Arctic Circle to take on Tromso in the Europa League, Villas-Boas insists claims his position in the White Hart Lane hotseat is under threat are untrue.
“I have the confidence of the board, I have the confidence of my players and I have to move on to do a proper job,” he said.
“The board is of the opinion that everything went wrong [on Sunday] and we hope to get some response in the future.”
Seven of striker Jermain Defoe’s nine goals this season have come in the Europa League, though he is one of 10 first team players who have not travelled to Norway.
But Villas-Boas has denied claims his record European goalscorer is set for a January move to Major League Soccer side Toronto FC.
“I can’t stop stories coming out,” he said. “At the moment the feeling is that the player [Defoe] is happy.”
