Ferguson lands FAcharge
FOOTBALL: Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was yesterday charged with improper conduct by the Football Association for his comments on referee Alan Wiley.
Ferguson questioned Wiley’s fitness after the 2-2 draw with Sunderland on 3 October and could face a hefty fine or touchline ban if found guilty.
He has two weeks to respond and can request a personal hearing if he wishes.
Meanwhile, United duo Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs have both been ruled out of United’s Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow tomorrow through injury.
Johnson’s next for Klitschko
BOXING: Vitali Klitschko will make the next defence of his WBC heavyweight title against unbeaten American Kevin Johnson on December 12 in Switzerland.
This will be the Ukrainian’s third defence of the year after already having beaten Juan Carlos Gomez and Chris Arreola.
Hughton handed Magpies role
FOOTBALL: Chris Hughton has confirmed he is in talks about taking the Newcastle manager’s job on a permanent basis.
Hughton has guided the Magpies to second in the Championship table and revealed yesterday he plans to discuss his future with managing director Derek Llambias after Saturday’s game with Doncaster.
“I am honoured to be offered the job,” Hughton said. “We are still in negotiations, but it is something we hope will get resolved.”
Champ Tweddle in quit threat
GYMNASTICS: New world champion Beth Tweddle says she could quit the sport before the 2012 Olympics if she suffers a dip in form.
At 24, Tweddle is one of the oldest competitors on the circuit and says she will retire if she is no longer competitive.
“ If my results start to decrease, then maybe it’s time to bow out,” she admitted.
