Irvine tipped to land Lions role
RUGBY UNION: British and Irish Lions chiefs are expected to name their latest manager today, with Scotland legend Andy Irvine tipped for the role. The former full-back, 59, toured three times as a Lions player and will be tasked with picking a coach for the 2013 trip to Australia.
Green wonder-round nabs title
GOLF: Australian Richard Green shot 11 birdies in a scintillating final round of 65 to overcome a seven-shot deficit and win the Portugal Masters. Green ended on 18 under par, two clear of a group of four players that included Italian Ryder Cup star Francesco Molinari and Sweden’s Henrik Stenson.
West Indies sack captain Gayle
CRICKET: West Indies have sacked captain Chris Gayle and replaced him with all-rounder Darren Sammy. Batsman Gayle, appointed in 2007, retains his place in the squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
