United pull out of Cole race
FOOTBALL: Arsenal remain favourites to sign Joe Cole this summer after Manchester United reportedly pulled out of the race to sign the England midfielder yesterday.
The 28-year-old will become a free agent when his Chelsea contract expires on 1 July after the Blues refused to offer him a new deal.
Tottenham are also in the hunt.
Haddin out for Test series
CRICKET: Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin has been forced out of Australia’s two-Test series with Pakistan on English soil next month after failing to recover from an elbow injury.
Haddin has been replaced in the squad by Tim Paine, who has also taken the gloves for
the NatWest one-day series with England.
Double boost for Leeds
RUGBY UNION: Leeds Carnegie have bolstered their squad for next season’s Premiership campaign with the signing of two props on 12-month contracts.
Spanish international Jesus Moreno Rodriguez, 24, arrives from Bordeaux, while Miguel Alonso, joins fellow new boy Sean Hohnecks from Viadana.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have signed Bristol flanker Redford Pennycook.
Daley’s back strain not serious
DIVING: Tom Daley’s coach Andy Banks insists the 16-year-old is not suffering from a serious back injury despite being forced to pull out of this weekend British Gss Diving Championship.
Daley sustained the injury is training and is now being rested for the European Championships in August and Commonwealth Games in October.
