Smartphone wars go galactic at Heathrow
THE SMARTPHONE industry is well-known for its tit-for-tat behaviour. When they’re not battling in courts over patents, phone-makers use advertising to take pot-shots at their rivals. Samsung once built an entire fake Apple store to use for filming in its mockery of Apple. A month ago on Earth Day, Apple commissioned a nationwide ad saying, “There are some ideas we want every company to copy,” – a firm dig at Samsung.
Now Nokia has waded in, backed up by powerhouse owner Microsoft, and taken a swing at Samsung’s takeover of Heathrow’s T5 (“Terminal Samsung Galaxy S5”, if you will). On Saturday it sent astronauts to the airport in search of a flight to the galaxy. Naturally they didn’t find one. Egg on Samsung’s face? We’re not sure.
