Sloppy Wasps maintain perfect league record at their new home
WASPS director of rugby Dai Young admitted his side were far from fluent despite posting a bonus-point 32-21 victory against Gloucester at the Ricoh Arena yesterday to move into the Premiership play-off places.
Tries from flanker Thomas Young, full-back Rob Miller and wing Elliot Daly gave Wasps a 17-13 half-time advantage after the Cherry and Whites surged into an early lead courtesy of flanker Ross Moriarty powering over.
But a second touchdown from Young and a Guy Thompson try sealed victory despite Henry Purdy dotting down for the visitors as fourth-placed Wasps maintained their 100 per cent league record at their new home.
“Something we have talked about is to keep our home record in the Premiership intact, which is hugely important to us,” said Young.
“But I have to be honest, it was a pretty scrappy performance from us. We were very ordinary in parts so to come away with a win, let alone a bonus-point win, means I am really pleased.
“We were sloppy and put a lot of pressure on ourselves as well.”
