Shell shakes up shale gas and oil operations as US chairman Marvin Odum exits
Shell's US boss Marvin Odum is leaving the company after more than three decades at the firm, spurring the oil firm to shutter its "unconventional resources" division, of which he was director.
Odum's exit along with Shell's withdrawal from Alaska and Carmon Creek in Canada has sparked a shake up of the unit which covered shale gas and heavy oil operations and which was only set up at the start of the year. The reorganisation is part of an ongoing review of its portfolio.
Its global shale oil and gas operations will now fall under its upstream business led by Andy Brown while heavy oil projects including Athabasca oil sands project and the Scotford Upgrader in Canada, will be overseen by downstream director John Abbott.
Shell's executive vice president of HR Bruce Culpepper will take over as chairman in the US.
