Scudamore has no fear over fair play regulations
PREMIER LEAGUE chief executive Richard Scudamore insists no English clubs will be banned from European competition for contravening Uefa’s soon to be imposed new financial fair play laws.
The rules are being introduced to ensure clubs do not spend more money than they earn and will be introduced gradually. Extreme offences could see teams banned from the Champions League from 2014.
Big-spending English sides such as Manchester City and Chelsea may well be forced to tighten their belts as a result, but Scudamore is sure they will have no problem in cutting their cloth accordingly.
“I don’t see any circumstances where any of our clubs could get near to exclusion,” he said. “Uefa is too sensible. It’s not in its interests to do so.
“It’s more about taking the steam out of the system and acting as a speed bump rather than about barring clubs. In general we’re supportive.”
