Royal Mail to deliver pay lift
ROYAL Mail has agreed to give postal workers a nine per cent pay rise over three years and a £200 Christmas bonus.
The deal, brokered with the Communications Workers Union – which represents 80 per cent of the 139,000 postal workers – will also protect job conditions for five years and lift pension contributions.
The three-year pay deal gives workers a three per cent pay increase for this year, backdated to April, plus another three per cent in the next financial year and a further 2.8 per cent the year after, subject to inflation.
The show of Christmas goodwill ended fears of a seasonal strike. The company’s shares rose 0.42 per cent to 597p yesterday.
