Rodgers rages at young flops
OLDHAM ATHLETIC 3 vs LIVERPOOL 2
LIVERPOOL manager Brendan Rodgers slammed his team last night, after they crashed out of the FA Cup at League One Oldham.
A brace from Matt Smith and a superb header by Reece Wabara earned Oldham a fifth round clash against Everton, despite goals from Luis Suarez and Joe Allen.
“I was bitterly disappointed with the young players as they had a chance to compete for a club that has to challenge for trophies,” Rodgers said. “We lost our concentration and only had spells when we were at the right level.”
A second minute header from Smith opened the scoring, while 15 minutes later Suarez slotted home an equaliser. But in first half injury time a Brad Jones howler gifted Smith his second. Wabara’s climbing header just after the break was enough to seal the win, with Allen’s 80th-minute strike proving futile.
