Retail job vacancies fall 25 per cent in 2012
THE NUMBER of jobs available in the retail sector slumped by a quarter in the second half of last year according to research published yesterday by RetailChoice.com, the specialist retail recruitment website.
The company, which sampled 30,000 jobs advertised through its website between July and December last year, said while total vacancies declined, the growing importance of online shopping led to a 42 per cent jump in demand for e-commerce roles.
Management roles bore the brunt of the decline with over 3,500 fewer jobs advertised while the fashion sector was also hit with a 21 per cent fall in jobs – around 3,750 fewer jobs– compared to the same time last year.
