Reds reject Benitez set for San Siro after agreeing Inter deal
RAFAEL BENITEZ will be unveiled as the new manager of Inter Milan today after agreeing a deal to succeed Jose Mourinho at the San Siro.
Benitez has been locked in discussions with the European champions after his six-year spell in charge of Liverpool was ended by mutual consent last week.
The Spaniard is due to fly into Milan this morning to finalise the deal with president Massimo Moratti.
Moratti confirmed last night: “We have agreed the final details, which were not important things.
“All that is needed now is a counter-signature. Tomorrow we will tell you when he will be presented.”
Meanwhile, Benitez’s old foe, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, says he expects to reclaim the Premier League title from Chelsea’s grasp next season – with or without the aid of big-money signings this summer.
“In the market today it’s very difficult and the structure of our squad is good in terms of ages, the balance, the numbers and there’s a lot of good young players,” the Scot said. “Sometimes you have to trust in all the development, and I’m going to stick with that – or most of it.”
He added: “Next season we’ll go again and bring back the title to the best place in the world. We’ll come back next year, that’s exactly what Manchester United do.”
Fulham have completed the signing of centre back Philippe Senderos from Arsenal on a three-year deal.
The Swiss international, 25, joined the Gunners from Servette in 2003, but has had loan spells at AC Milan and Everton in the last two seasons.
“I’m delighted that I am joining the club during the most successful period in its history,” Senderos said.
Manchester City trio Martin Petrov, Sylvinho and Benjani will all leave the club this summer.
