Queen Mary crown still Gleaming
WHEN it comes to five furlongs and two-year-old fillies, you need look no further than Wesley Ward.
Campanelle, Lady Aurelia, Acapulco and Jealous Again all burnt themselves into our memories with electric performances in the Queen Mary (2:30pm) over the past decade or so, and the American trainer appears to have another top class act wound up for this year’s renewal.
TWILIGHT GLEAMING is the red-hot contender from across the pond and she prepared for this contest by an impressive seven-and-a-half length win on the turf at Belmont.
She looks well drawn towards the stand’s side and could be another Ward filly that bursts out of the gates and makes all.
Thankfully for her, the showers aren’t set to rumble in until Thursday and everything looks set for a massive run.
In search of a bit more value, and in particular with the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s massive World Pool in action every day this week at tote.co.uk or via the App, QUICK SUZY and BEAUTIFUL SUNSHINE are worth combining with the favourite in a Quinella (selecting two or more runners to place first and second in any order).
Gavin Cromwell obviously thinks a huge amount of his filly, Quick Suzy, to make his first appearance at Royal Ascot, while talk from the George Boughey camp about Beautiful Sunshine has been very confident.
While I’m happy to play one of Wes’ charges at 11/4 in the Queen Mary, the 9/4 about Ruthin in the 28-runner Windsor Castle (5:35pm) is a touch too short and you’ve got to look for an each-way alternative.
TIPPERARY SUNSET caught the eye when winning a hot Conditions race at Beverley last time out and is a much more inviting bet at 12/1.
He looked a very smart, straightforward type when making all that day and the only real question mark is the quicker ground.
Both his sire and dam won on good-to-firm, though, and there’s every chance he’ll go just as well, if not better, on this sounder surface.
