QPR link to Los Angeles franchise
CARDIFF City owner Vincent Tan, QPR co-owner Ruben Gnanalingam, basketball great Magic Johnson and women’s football star Mia Hamm are among a host of investors in a new Los Angeles team.
Los Angeles FC is set to start playing in 2017 and will take the place of Chivas USA, from the same city, in Major League Soccer.
Malaysian Gnanalingam – part of a three-man consortium, along with chairman Tony Fernandes, that majority owns QPR – is one of 22 shareholders listed on LAFC’s website, which went live yesterday.
Elsewhere in the United States, former Real Madrid striker Raul has agreed to join New York Cosmos, who play in the second-tier North American Soccer League.
The 37-year-old signed a “multi-year” contract that will also see him act as a consultant to the franchise.
