Prudential Ride London 2019: Everything you need to know about this weekend’s cycling event
What is it?
The Prudential Ride London is a festival of cycling, created by the former Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, in 2013.
Now in its seventh year, the event is managed by the London and Surrey Cycling Partnership, which includes London Marathon Events and SweetSpot Group, which organises the Tour of Britain cycling event.
Roads are closed and it allows cyclists to race around London, combining the fun of free family rides in central London, with professional cyclists racing through the streets.
Amateur cyclists are also allowed to participate across the 100-mile challenge, in a similar style to the London marathon, raising money for good causes.
So far more than £66m has been raised for charity.
When is it?
The event gets underway today, 3 August, and will continue into tomorrow with many roads closed throughout the capital.
It is free for spectators to come along and watch, and will also be aired on BBC.
Saturday’s event is available for anyone to get involved. The FreeCycle encourages families and friends to ride, while Sunday’s event is the 100-mile race aimed at professionals.
