Primark opens first US store in central Boston
Retail giant Primark has taken its first step into the US market, with plans to launch a total of eight stores in the region over coming months.
The group opened its flagship store in Boston yesterday, having previously opened a distribution centre in Pennsylvania last week.
“We have chosen the ideal location for our north eastern US home in the city of Boston,” said Paul Marchant, Primark chief executive. “We are delighted to become part of the community and formally introduce shoppers to the Primark brand.”
Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh, who led a ribbon-cutting celebration for the new store, said: “I’m thrilled to officially welcome Primark to Boston. Primark will bring jobs and increased economic activity for our residents and visitors, and we are grateful they chose Downtown Crossing as the site of their first north east location.”
Primark has also announced plans to open stores in seven other locations across the Northeast of the US, with its second shop set to open in Pennsylvania in November.
