Police cordon off road around London’s iconic Blue Fin Building over “loose facade”
It's home to Time Inc UK and a host of other companies, but today London's iconic Blue Fin Building became a health and safety hazard.
According to people working in the Southwark-based Blue Fin – so called because of 2,000 blue aluminium fins that cover the facade and shade the interior – the authorities were called in because of fears over loose panels.
City AM understands that police restricted access to part of the building and the adjacent road as a health and safety precaution while it was established that the facia was safe.
The area around the building was cordoned off and buses diverted – but the building remained intact, and the road has since been reopened.
Twitter users were unimpressed:
Designed by award-winning architects Allies and Morrison, the building on 110 Southwark Street only opened seven years ago.
UPDATE: This story was updated to reflect the fact that panels were loose rather than falling.
