Plans for Williams’ resurgence convinces Massa to leave Ferrari
THE Formula One merry-go-round kicked into overdrive last night as Williams announced the signing of Felipe Massa from Ferrari, while McLaren are also poised to confirm rookie Kevin Magnussen will replace Sergio Perez next season.
Massa has penned a three-year deal to replace Pastor Maldonado, with the Venezuelan driver tipped to replace Ferrari-bound Kimi Raikonnen at Lotus.
Williams are currently enduring the worst season in their history, having picked up just a single point in the constructors’ championship, but with new regulations set to come in next year affecting the design of a car’s engine and chassis, Massa is confident his new team can become more competitive.
“The team wants to grow. It is already a big team but they are really pushing hard to go back to what they were in the past,” said the Brazilian, who won 11 races in eight years at Ferrari.
“It is a team to fight for the championships and I want to be a part of it. I understand what they are doing to get stronger. I think we can be very successful.”
