Pharmaceuticals company Shire to slash 180 UK jobs
UK pharmaceuticals company Shire will be reducing its staff numbers by up to 180, as part of its reorganisation plan. The job losses will be concentrated at the company's Basingstoke office. The "One Shire" programme is intended to simplify the business. Shire will be consolidating their three autonomous divisions into one business operation.
Phil Vickers, head of research & development for Shire, said:
We understand this is a very difficult situation for those employees potentially affected by the proposed changes we have announced today in Basingstoke, and we are fully committed to supporting them during this consultation process. We firmly believe, however, that these steps are vital to Shire remaining a high growth business that continues to develop products that serve unmet patient need.
Shire intends to concentrate its strategic priorities to increase sales in its existing portfolio. The company also announced that it is proposing to relocate its Swiss operations from Eysins to Zug.
