Penalty shootout? Just anyone but Downing
STATISTICS confirm what every England fan already suspects: that Roy Hodgson’s men are the worst team at Euro 2012 when it comes to penalty shoot-outs. The good news, however, is that Italy are the next worst.
England have won only one of their six shoot-outs, converting just 68 per cent of spot-kicks. Italy, who have won two from seven, netted 70 per cent.
When it comes to takers, Leighton Baines, Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney all look safe bets. In short, anyone but Stewart Downing, who failed to get any of his three on target.
