Pellegrini tells Blues: You play like a small club
MANCHESTER City manager Manuel Pellegrini reignited his war of words with Jose Mourinho last night by accusing Chelsea of deploying negative tactics.
“I think we played during 90 minutes against a small team trying to defend, trying to keep 10 players in front of their goal,” Pellegrini said, following the 1-1 draw between the sides.
“I think we played against exactly the same team we played against Stoke here,” he added.
The Chelsea boss responded by appearing to deliberately refer to his counterpart as “Mr Pellegrino”, instead of using his correct name. “Pellegrino many times says he never speaks about me and my team but he keeps doing the same thing,” he said.
The managers have had a tense relationship since Mourinho took over from Pellegrini at the helm of Real Madrid in 2010 and subsequently made jibes about his predecessor’s record.
