Paul Flowers arrested in connection with drug allegations
The former chairman of the Co-op Bank has been arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs, police have said.
West Yorkshire Police said in a statement that the 63 year old was arrested by officers in the Merseyside area last night. "He has been taken to a police station in West Yorkshire where detectives will continue their enquiries." The arrest is in connection with an ongoing investigation by the police.
Paul Flowers, a Methodist minister, was dubbed the Crystal Methodist after he was filmed allegedly handing over £300 for drugs.
Flowers was suspended by the church and the Labour party following the allegations of drug use, having quit his job as Co-op Bank chairman in the summer. Yesterday, the lender asked him to repay the £31,000 he received in the second half of 2013.
