Pardew faces ban after charge for headbutt
NEWCASTLE manager Alan Pardew faces a lengthy ban after being charged by the Football Association with improper conduct yesterday for his clash with Hull midfielder David Meyler.
Pardew is alleged to have headbutted Meyler during Saturday’s 4-1 victory at the KC Stadium after the Republic of Ireland international pushed him in order to retrieve the ball when it went out of play.
The former West Ham and Charlton boss was sent to the stands by referee Kevin Friend, swiftly issued an apology and was later fined £100,000 by Newcastle and warned about his future conduct.
The FA described the charge, which Pardew has until 6pm on Thursday to respond to, as “non-standard” and could hit the 52-year-old with a fine and lengthy stadium ban should he plead or be found guilty.
An FA statement read: “It is alleged that in the 72nd minute of the fixture, Pardew was involved in an incident with a Hull City player that amounted to improper conduct.
“Due to the serious violent and/or aggressive nature of the reported behaviour, this case has been designated as non-standard.”
Humberside Police confirmed yesterday the incident would not be treated as a criminal matter as no complaint had been received from Meyler or his club Hull.
Pardew has previously come under fire from the FA, receiving a £20,000 fine and two-match touchline ban after pushing an assistant referee in August 2012.
