Panama Papers: Another senior ranking official resigns over tax haven leak
The Panama Papers have claimed another government minister's scalp: this time it's Spain's acting industry minister Jose Manuel Soria.
The official resigned this morning after "being cornered" by new information released yesterday that suggested he and his brother were linked with a company registered in Jersey, local media is reporting.
Yesterday El Mundo newspaper revealed documents from the Jersey firm carrying Soria's signature.
He had already been linked with a separate company, registered in the Bahamas, which he had denied any involvement with, despite his name appearing in the batch of documents leaked from law firm Mossack Fonseca.
His resignation comes just days before he was due to appear in Spanish parliament to explain this claim.
"I totally deny that I have anything to do with any company based in Panama, or any other tax haven," Soria said on Monday.
