Pakistan reach World T20 final
CRICKET: Pakistan eased into their second successive World Twenty20 final last night after toppling pre-tournament favourites South Africa in the first semi-final at Trent Bridge.
All-rounder Shahid Afridi was the Pakistani hero, smashing 51 off 34 balls before removing Herschelle Gibbs and AB de Villiers in his first two overs for figures of 2-16.
Pakistan’s 149-4 looked insufficient, but despite 64 from Jacques Kallis, the Proteas fell seven runs short to continue their miserable record in major one-day competitions.
Pakistan now play the winners of the second semi-final between Sri Lanka and the West Indies which takes place at The Oval today.
