Japan's Kohei Uchimura, a gold medal-winner at the London 2012 games and hot favourite to win again in Rio, was landed with a £3,700 charge for playing the game in Brazil after arriving for pre-games training.
“He looked dead at the team meal that day," said teammate Kenzo Shirai, after Uchimura had discovered the charges.

Luckily, his phone carrier spared him the charges, the Japan Times reports.
Not that he couldn't have sorted out some way to pay it off – Uchimura is after all the 30th most marketable Olympic athlete in the world, according to City A.M.'s newly published Rio 50 list of the most bankable stars of the games.
