O’Neill eyes Davies after derby draw
SUNDERLAND (1) vs MIDDLESBROUGH (1)
SUNDERLAND manager Martin O’Neill admits he is weighing up a bid for Bolton striker Kevin Davies after his side fought back to force a replay with north east rivals Middlesbrough.
Barry Robson’s first-half volley gave the Championship team a shock lead but Fraizer Campbell marked his first appearance following an 18-month injury absence with the equaliser after coming off the bench.
Bolton boss Owen Coyle revealed on Saturday that Sunderland had enquired about veteran frontman Davies, and O’Neill confirmed he was mulling over a possible deal before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
“I did make an enquiry and Owen would obviously want to try to keep him,” said O’Neill. “I may well follow that up tomorrow morning.”
Campbell’s return has eased the Black Cats’ striker shortage, but they remain a man down with on-loan Nicklas Bendtner ruled out for three more weeks with a broken nose.
