Npower agrees to refund credit
NPOWER yesterday bowed to government pressure and joined some of its big six peers in agreeing to give automatic refunds to direct debit customers whose accounts are in credit.
The energy company said it would move to automatic refunding of credit balances over £5 on direct debit accounts at customers’ annual reviews. “We are happy to move to a lower automatic refund, and we will continue to find ways to provide choice for those customers who would rather keep a buffer on their account,” said Roger Hattam, director of Npower’s retail business.
EDF and FTSE 100-quoted Centrica, which owns British Gas, had already confirmed that they would automatically issue refunds for customers in credit, after pressure from the government to return the outstanding money.
Fellow FTSE 100 firm SSE said it would automatically return money to customers in credit by £100 or more.
