Nothing cooler than Arsenal winning the title
ARSENAL’S major shareholder Stan Kroenke has vowed to continue backing manager Arsene Wenger in the transfer market because “there would be nothing cooler” than winning the Premier League title.
The Gunners smashed their transfer record last month when they paid Real Madrid £42m to sign midfielder Mesut Ozil and go into this weekend’s fixture at Swansea top of the table.
And Kroenke insists the big-money capture of Ozil will be just the start with his ambition to see Arsenal crowned Premier League champions for the first time since 2004.
“There would be nothing cooler than to win the championship of the Premier League,” said the 66-year-old American entrepreneur, who owns a 63 per cent stake in the club.
“There’s an awareness financially within clubs of spending in the US and Europe which you have to have.
“But we’ve always said that there are resources available to Arsene. We have always been, and will continue to be very supportive.”
Kroenke’s interest in Arsenal makes up just part of his sporting empire. He owns American football, basketball, hockey and Major League Soccer teams, but has vowed to never sell his stake in Arsenal.
“You can look at all our teams, you can say positively or negatively about them, but one thing’s for sure we never sold one,” he added.
“We have a lot of money invested in Arsenal. My only mistake was to not get involved sooner.”
