Norway to UK gas pipeline opens
The first transport of gas from the Gjoea and Vega fields offshore Norway began on Sunday with the opening of the Gjoea pipeline, Norwegian North Sea infrastructure operator Gassco said yesterday.
“First gas began to flow on 10 October through the Gjoea gas pipe,” Gassco said, adding that first deliveries would begin when the platform becomes operational.
The 80-mile pipeline, which has a capacity of some 17m cubic metres (mcm) per day, will transport gas from the fields to the St Fergus terminal in Scotland via the Shell-operated Flags transit system.
Gjoea is estimated to have recoverable reserves of 82m barrels of oil and condensate and 40bn cubic metres of gas, according to field co-operator Statoil.
The other operator, GDF Suez, said regular production at the Gjoea field would start in the fourth quarter of 2010.
