North rested as precaution
WALES have left wing George North out of the team for this weekend’s Six Nations trip to Scotland in order to give him more time to recover from two heavy blows to the head.
Team doctors stressed this week that North had shown no signs of concussion despite appearing to be knocked unconscious at least once during defeat to England in Friday’s championship curtain-raiser. But coach Warren Gatland has omitted the 22-year-old for Sunday’s contest at Murrayfield as a precaution, handing Scarlets’ Liam Williams the chance to impress instead.
“George is completely symptom-free,” said Gatland. “We try not to let external pressure affect our decisions, but he is a young man. He was out for three or four weeks after a knock in the autumn. He is not a happy man, I can tell you that. He is disappointed that we have ruled him out. I said to him it is not a rugby decision, it is a welfare one.”
