No favours for new team from in-form Smith
HARLEQUINS boss Conor O’Shea admits Worcester Warriors have got their hands on a clinical winger after Sixways-bound Sam Smith led Quins to victory against his future employers on Saturday.
Wing David Lemi crossed over in an opening half dominated by Worcester, but Quins fought back through Smith, who scored his third try in four Aviva Premiership Rugby games.
Debutant Harry Sloan then put Harlequins in control and, despite Chris Pennell’s late reply, Quins denied Worcester their first Aviva Premiership win in exactly a year.
“He’s a try-scorer, always has been. He’ll be a good acquisition for them,” O’Shea said of the man set to make way for London Irish’s Marland Yarde. “We’re sorry to see him go, but the salary cap is the salary cap.”
Former London Wasps star Danny Cipriani inspired Sale Sharks to a 21-17 win over his old team, London Irish’s fine run ended with an 18-0 defeat at Exeter Chiefs, while on Friday Saracens held off fellow high-flyers Bath to claim a 23-10 victory.
