New age rules for F1 drivers
FORMULA One drivers will have to be 18 years old to compete in the sport under a tougher set of qualification rules to be introduced in 2016.
Drivers will also have to earn a fixed number of points from racing in junior series over a three-year period to obtain a super licence.
Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen, 17, will make his F1 bow this year but would be unqualified if the rules were in force, while the likes of Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button and Ayrton Senna would have been ineligible for their debuts.
