Netflix to debut across Italy and Portugal as expansion rolls on
NETFLIX is to take to the stage in Italy and Portugal this October, to add to the more than 50 countries where it is already available.
Netflix made the big reveal in an announcement over the weekend in California, just days after it announced the service would soon be available in Spain.
In March, the company announced its worldwide user base had hit 62m people, and it plans to make its service available globally by the end of 2016. Some wrangling may be necessary to get the service running in countries such as China, however.
The bulk of Netflix’s customers are in the US, with 42m of the 62m subscribers watching from there.
Canada is Netflix’s second biggest market following by the UK.
Netflix said its service would be “fully localised”, offering Italian and Portuguese subtitles and dubbing in the respective countries. Netflix, which launched in 2007, currently streams the equivalent of 100m hours of TV a day globally.
