Murray: Nadal absence won’t gift final place
BRITISH No1 Andy Murray insists the absence from Wimbledon of rival Rafael Nadal does not guarantee him a place in Sunday’s final.
Having beaten Marcos Baghdatis in four sets on Saturday, Murray today faces Marin Cilic, who also overcame Sam Querrey in five and a half demanding hours, and concedes he will need to improve if he is to reach his first Wimbledon final.
“It’s silly for me to think Nadal’s out so therefore I am guaranteed a place in the final,” said Murray. “That’s definitely not the case at all. I have got to keep my head focused on my next match. I am going to need to play better if I want to go deep into the tournament.”
Following Cilic, Murray faces a potential quarter-final against Juan Martin del Potro or David Ferrer.
