Mother and child ‘amazingly’ survive Tube platform fall by hiding in pit under track
A mother and child were “extremely fortunate” to survive after falling onto a Tube track seconds before a train arrived at Baker Street last night.
British Transport Police (BTP) said the woman was pushing her child in a buggy along the platform just before 10.15pm last night when she accidentally pushed the wheels over the platform edge as she was looking up at the information boards.
The pair fell onto the track and the father jumped down to rescue them as a train approached the station.
Police said the family were “extremely fortunate” they were able to move into a pit under the track as the train passed safely over the top of them.
BTP said: “Amazingly none of them were seriously hurt, but as a precaution they were taken to hospital for check-ups.”
