Moores doubts England coach Flower has hunger to continue
FORMER England cricket coach Peter Moores admits he is unsure whether his successor Andy Flower still has the motivation to continue in his role beyond the current doomed Ashes tour.
But Moores insists that Flower, who has refused to commit beyond the end of the Test series, is the right man to inspire a response to losing the urn this week – if he has the motivation.
“If he’s hungry, yes,” said Moores, who left the post in January 2009. “He’s the same as the players, you’ve got to have the hunger and desire in this job, you’re representing the country. Andy plays his cards so close to his chest, it’s difficult to know. If he’s hungry, he’s good enough, no doubt about it.”
Australia have released batsmen David Warner and George Bailey and all-rounder Steven Smith to play in limited-overs Big Bash matches this week, having taken an unassailable 3-0 series lead over England.
Bowler Ryan Harris has been forced to apologise, however, after he posted expletive-laden messages on Twitter during celebrations following Tuesday’s triumph.
Harris, whose posts railed against casino doormen who were preventing him attending a party laid on by Aussie hero Shane Warne, said: “As I’ve heard many times before, don’t tweet when you’ve had a drink. I made a silly mistake and I tweeted something I probably shouldn’t have.
“I apologise to Crown [casino], it was a silly thing to do – they let me in in the end, so they did the right thing. Obviously they have to do their job, and they were doing it.”
