Mikel tips shot-shy Eto’o to show he’s still among the world’s best
STRIKER Samuel Eto’o will soon show the Premier League he is still world class, according to Chelsea team-mate Jon Obi Mikel.
Eto’o made a disappointing debut at Goodison Park on Saturday as the Blues lost 1-0 to Everton.
The Cameroon striker was prolific at Barcelona and Inter Milan earlier in his career, but appears to have lost some of that predatory instinct following two seasons of playing in the Russian Premier League with Anzhi Makhachkala.
But Mikel has tipped Eto’o to prove any doubters of his ability wrong, sooner rather than later.
“I think he looked a bit sharp so it won’t take him long to get back into his fitness,” said Mikel. “He is a world-class player, a fantastic guy. We just have to keep playing with him and helping him to adapt to the Premier League.
“The English league is very difficult to adapt to and this was the first game for him and he has done pretty well.
“Chelsea was my first real professional club and it took me six months to a year to adapt, but I think someone like Eto’o, who has played in so many leagues, won’t take very long.”
