McIlroy begins legal action against agents
TWO-TIME Major winner Rory McIlroy has begun legal proceedings against his former representatives Horizon Sports Management in the hope of recovering £5.9m in fees.
The former world No1 feels he was misled by the Dublin-based firm during their 18-month association and views their fees as excessive.
McIlroy also wants to end his association with Gurteen and Canovan Management, though all three parties are expected to counter claim.
The 24-year-old, who was absent from Monday’s High Court hearing, alleged in a statement of claim: “Horizon and Mr Ridge [his agent] was primarily concerned with maximising their own share of any commission.”
The case will be heard at Dublin’s Commercial Court, the big business division of the High Court, with a provisional trial date set for October 2014 to fit in with McIlroy’s schedule.
