McGinley backs his selections to deliver success
CAPTAIN Paul McGinley is convinced the right choices have been made after he announced Europe’s new-look pairings for today’s opening Ryder Cup fourballs at Gleneagles
Europe will be led off by Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson against Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson, with Thomas Bjorn and Martin Kaymer then facing Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker.
Ryder Cup debutant Stephen Gallacher and Ian Poulter are next out against United States rookie duo Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed before world No1 Rory McIlroy and Spain’s Sergio Garcia tackle American veteran Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley.
None of Europe’s pairs have joined forces in previous Ryder Cups and, while McGinley is confident in his selections, the Irishman is more than prepared to modify his game-plan if required.
“Things evolve and move, the template doesn’t mean pairings have to be exact same pairings,” said McGinley.
“My ideas might backfire but that’s what you do as captain, make your decision, set out your stall, watch what happens and you adapt to what happens.”
