McDonald’s trials Fleet Street takeaway store for City workers
McDonalds has today launched a trial takeaway-only store in Fleet Street targeting City workers on the move.
The new “grab-and-go” format marks the fast food giant’s attempt to adapt to the needs of different customers during a difficult time for the restaurant sector.

The Fleet Street McDonald’s to Go will be smaller than a standard McDonald’s branch with no seating area, compact self-order screens and a reduced menu.
Alongside menu options such as chicken nuggets and the Big Mac, the company plans to trial a selection of prepared salads later this year.
McDonald’s is weighing up options for other McDonald’s to Go stores, which “could look very different” from the Fleet Street branch, as it tailors the design for different customer needs.
Henry Trickey, senior vice president of development and IT for McDonald’s UK and Ireland, said: “It’s an exciting, but challenging time to be in the restaurant sector. Changing tastes, new technology and more competition mean we need to continue to focus on investing in what matters most to our customers.

“We know that ‘one size doesn’t fit all’ and that’s exactly why we are launching McDonald’s to Go – to allow us to trial different formats in different locations, depending on customer needs.”
The launch of the new format comes as McDonald’s marks 45 years of operating in the UK.
