MATCH ANALYSIS
CITY A.M. VERDICT
In the end Arsenal were fortunate to get nil. In many ways this was an even poorer performance than the one which resulted in a humiliating 8-2 drubbing at Old Trafford back in August.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a divisive character who is often accused of failing to deliver on the big stage. On his day, however, he’s unplayable – sadly for Arsenal they ran into the Swede on one such occasion.
KEY MOMENT
Any momentum Arsenal gained from a half-time switch to 4-4-2 was punctured within four minutes when Vermaelen’s slip allowed Robinho the chance to locate the bottom corner with precision accuracy.
TALKING POINT
A European knockout blow has prompted a domestic collapse in each of the last two seasons. With an FA Cup tie at Sunderland on Sunday and fourth place up for grabs, Wenger must prevent another implosion.
DUGOUT VIEW
Tonight we had so many chances, especially after going 4-0 up. We could’ve won 6-0 and ought to take our chances when they appear, above all in Europe. I hoped to add some more to the result, because we have to take the opportunities. The result is good, but it would’ve been better to score a few more and definitively end the tie.
