Man City to learn financial rule fate
MANCHESTER City are expected to find out this week whether they face punishment under European financial fair play (FFP) rules.
City and French champions Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be the two most high-profile teams at risk of failing new break-even rules.
Governing body Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) meets today and tomorrow in Nyon, Switzerland, to decide which of the 76 clubs under investigation have committed serious breaches.
City’s losses of almost £150m appear to exceed Uefa’s limit of £38m over two seasons, though they are expected to be much closer to passing once numerous exceptions are factored in.
Teams deemed to have failed will then be passed from the CFCB’s investigatory chamber to its adjudicatory panel, which is set to decide what degree of punishment to levy by 5 May. Options include dismissing the case, agreeing a settlement with the club, fines and, in the worst cases, a ban from next season’s Champions League.
