Londoners back Cameron’s plan to toughen up Tube strike rules
A MAJORITY of Londoners agree with PM David Cameron that rules allowing Tube workers to go on strike need to be toughened up, according to a new poll.
Research by the business membership organisation London First showed that 56 per cent of people living in the capital support plans to enforce a voting threshold for strikes, meaning Tube bosses would have to secure the support of over half of the work force before a walkout could take place.
Those asked were less supportive of banning strikes outright, although 40 per cent did say they would be in favour, compared to 42 per cent against.
Baroness Jo Valentine, chief executive of London First, said: “It’s ridiculous the RMT can be the cause of such frustration to Londoners when only a small minority vote for strikes, while a large majority don’t vote at all.”
