Londoners are really unfit – more than a third of us think we’re too unhealthy to start exercising, and half of us are worn out running for the bus
We're a city of layabouts and couch potatoes; Londoners are so unfit that we can't even run for the bus.
Half of Londoners say they get out of breath running for the bus, while over a third think they're too unhealthy to start exercising at all, according to new research.
Astonishingly, nearly a third of Londoners believe that regular exercise is only for people who are "fit and healthy" and even find walking upstairs a bit much, according to the British Heart Foundation.
The survey found that almost 49 per cent of Londoners said, if they went running now, the furthest they could manage is just half a mile or less. Just one in five felt they could only make it to 100 metres.
Christopher Allen, Senior Cardiac Nurse at the British Heart Foundation, said: “These statistics are concerning, and paint a worrying picture about the nation’s fitness levels."
:Heart disease can affect anyone at any age, but keeping physically active is one of the best ways to help build a strong and healthy heart so we shouldn’t ignore the benefits."
