Liverpool fall short late on
LIVERPOOL threw away their chance of qualifying for the Europa League knockout stages last night, conceding late on to draw 2-2 with Young Boys at Anfield. Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Cole twice put the Reds ahead but a long range Raul Bobadilla strike and Elsad Zverotic’s fierce equaliser drew Young Boys level. Liverpool must achieve a better result than Young Boys in the final group fixture at Udinese to progress.
Newcastle, meanwhile, qualified for the last 32 despite a 1-1 draw at home to Martimo. Sylvain Marveaux put the Magpies ahead with his first for the club before Philipe Fidelis fired past Tim Krul.
