Leeds inquest was positive feedback
MUCH was made of our so-called team inquest after last week’s victory over Leeds, but it was really nothing more than an exchange of positive feedback.
I was actually very happy with the players individually, as I have been all season, it was just the fact that we didn’t stick to the gameplan as much as I’d have liked, which prompted the discussion.
Not that I needed to say much, however, the players didn’t need to be told of the mistakes they might have made and acknowledged the fact that things didn’t exactly go to plan.
That said, we came through unscathed and we go to Bath on Saturday with our 100 per cent record still in tact. Bath had made a stuttering start to the Premiership but are a better side than their league position suggests. They showed against Stade Francais recently just what a dangerous team they can be.
I was told this week that victory would represent a best league start to a season since Newcastle’s 12-match winning start in 1997, but that is certainly not a statistic on our radar at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.
The only numbers I’m interested in are in the league table at the end of the season. Right now, we’re simply taking things a step at a time.
This week, we are without fly-half Derick Hougaard, who has suffered a hamstring pull, but in Glen Jackson we have someone who certainly deserves a little run in the side.
