Ladies by a head at sun-soaked Epsom
THE SUN came out to meet the millenary yesterday as Investec Epsom Ladies Day got underway. There was all sorts of fashion to be seen from tartan to frilly tutus, but the Harvey Nichols fashion scouts and star fashion judge Mariella Tandy managed to pick out six ladies for the best dressed final.
“It’s been a wonderful day for fashion,” Tandy told The Capitalist. “I could have chosen 30 – it was very tricky to pick a winner.”
Asos may be having a tough week in terms of share price but the online retailer was a winner in the best dressed line-up. First place went to Rosie DeVito who was wearing a red Asos dress and John Lewis hat.
“It’s my second year hear, I’m with a bunch of my girlfriends,” she told The Capitalist. “I haven’t put any bets on yet but I’m certainly going to now.”
For those keen to avoid the heat, the restaurants proved a shady retreat.
The Capitalist caught up with chef of the moment Michel Roux Jr who was surveying his restaurant and enjoying the atmosphere.
“I’m not a betting man, I put a fiver on here and there but having our food at the races is a tremendous thing.” Our spies tell us, however, that the Masterchef star was incredibly lucky in one of the races but the Tote ladies wouldn’t give him his winnings until he posed for a photo. When opportunity knocks, eh?
Meanwhile Paddy Power himself got an almost unwelcome warning about the sun. “A passer by just tapped me on the shoulder and told me my head was burning – I realised I had a little bald patch,” he told The Capitalist.
Hopefully his luck with the horses made up for the revelation.
