Kuyt penalty hands Dalglish his first point
LIVERPOOL manager Kenny Dalglish toasted his first points since taking charge after Dirk Kuyt’s penalty earned a 2-2 draw in the Merseyside derby.
Goals from Sylvain Distin and Jermaine Beckford had put the visitors in front following Raul Meireles’ first goal for the Reds.
But Kuyt ensured Dalglish did not suffer a third defeat from three since replacing Roy Hodgson, and the boss said: “We are happy with the way we are playing. There is a lot of belief coming back into the players.”
Elsewhere, Asamoah Gyan struck in injury-time as Sunderland salvaged a 1-1 draw in the north-east derby with Newcastle at the Stadium of Light.
James Collins equalised for Aston Villa as they climbed out of the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw against city rivals Birmingham.
