Johanna Konta: I had to take antiobiotics in Aegon International quarter final
British No2 Johanna Konta revealed she had thwarted illness on her run to the last eight of the Aegon International after the morale-boosting streak came to an end yesterday.
Konta, who beat top-15 stars Ekaterina Makarova and Garbine Muguruza on her way to the Eastbourne quarter-finals, lost 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 to Swiss 18-year-old Belinda Bencic.
“I’m really happy with the week in general, but I’ve been struggling with some things and it kind of caught up to me today,” said the Australia-born 24-year-old.
“I’ve been on antibiotics this week. I have been ill. I have been slowly getting better, but it’s difficult to get better with energy levels when you play against such high level players.”
